used-1988-e4-strat-plus-surf-green
Used 1988 E4 Strat Plus Surf Green

This is mighty fine Surf Green which is among the holy grail colors in the 87-89 Strat Plus'. This has the E4 prefix serial number used on a lot of 87-early 88 Strat Plus guitars. You can see the full serial number on the headstock picture. The neck was built by the legendary John Cruz of Fender's Custom Shop fame! There are about 4 noticeable builders who made necks and John Cruz was one of them. When he first started on at Fender he worked on a number of the higher end American guitars, eventually becoming a master Builder in Custom Shop.

The guitar is mint+++ You would be hard pressed to find another 88 Surf Green Plus in this condition. The frets look brand new. The back of the neck is glossy and smooth. The build date on the neck is May 5th, 1988 and no visible body build date which is common in 87-89 for some reason. The body was made by Oscar Pallares and his name associated with a lot of early Strats. He too ended up in Fender's Custom Shop.

The body has no scratches, no button scratches and even the back tremolo plate looks like new. The pickguard does not even have any pick scratches! The pickups are the old 666 flat tops Gold Lace Sensors with the square bottoms giving the player that classic Fender Vintage tone without the annoying 60 cycle hum. Check out the lettering on the pickups, almost mint condition which is one does not see very often on these older Plus' as the lettering rubs off with being played a lot. It has Schaller locking tuners, which were introduced early 88. This also has the nickel-plated bridge block, common on the 87- early 88 Plus'. The Surf Green finish has aged (to a really nice richer color of green. Some natural patina there! The early Plus', 87 through early 89, did not come with Tremsetters.

This comes in the original Fender rectangular case that is in great condition. Inside is a brand-new vintage type Fender strap, a Fender polishing cloth, the tremolo arm and the hard-to-find American Standard owners booklet, Extra Spring packet with 2 extra springs, a hex key for adjusting the bridge saddles. The look, the sound, the condition and the playing experience truly makes this both a Collectors or serious Player's guitar.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0533/6173/7923/files/5125C422-B747-426C-B0EF-DAD04CEB360C.jpg?v=1787250391
